Why make time for CrossFit?

essay by Lauren

Life can seem like one long, exhausting to-do list. The busier we get, the more we tend to put ourselves last. Mindless chores like buying the groceries, errands like picking up the kids, or pulling all-nighters studying for a test…rise to the top of the list while we run ourselves ragged. We come home at the end of the day and plop into bed, only to repeat the cycle in a few short hours. It may seem like there is no time to do anything for your self. The truth is, you have to make the time. By making the time, you are taking the first step to creating your best self. Once you make this commitment, you set your schedule for the day and you stick to it. You attend a one- hour class and you leave flushed with confidence and feeling accomplished. You find what works best for you, early morning or evening. You meet friends and build relationships with the people you start to see on a daily basis. Soon enough it becomes a habit and not a chore. You want to go to the box. You crave the burn of a burpee and the competitive atmosphere. You begin to notice your spirit elevate and you realize you don’t feel tired every waking moment. At this point, you notice the positive trend flow into other facets of your life. Work doesn’t suck so much. Focusing during a lecture isn’t impossible. Sleep at night is restful and not restless. Why didn’t you do this sooner? In the words of Ernest Hemingway, “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” Take the challenge head on, believe in yourself and put your first foot forward out of your comfort zone… and into a CrossFit class.
